AQUAFIN-IC

  • Product description

AQUAFIN-IC (IntegraCoat) is a state-of-the-art, one-component, cement-based product that penetrates deeply to waterproof sound structures, new or old, built of concrete or concrete block. Resists hydrostatic pressure without forming a barrier and allows steam to escape.

    Typical Applications

    • Waterproofing structures on the exterior (positive) or interior (negative) surface. For foundation use is underground, basements, retaining walls, manholes, utility wells.
    • Water tanks (potable or non-potable), sewage tanks, sinks, people's wells, aquariums, parking garages, tunnels.

    Advantage

    • Does not pollute and always active
    • Easy to use - just mix with water
    • Can be applied to fresh concrete as soon as forms are broken
    • Protects concrete against fresh water, salt water, sewage and aggressive ground water
    • Applied by brush, spray or by sprinkling the dry powder
    • Withstands strong hydrostatic pressure (tested up to 200 psi = 460 feet [14 bar = 140 meters] pressure)
    • Post-seals cracks caused by concrete shrinkage up to 1/64 inch (0.4 mm)
    • Protects concrete deeply – concrete remains waterproof even if coating is damaged Contains no chloride Applied to positive (active) or negative (passive) side at water pressure Inorganic – non-toxic Odorless and smokeless Low cost .

AQUAFIN-IC contains waterproofing chemicals that react with moisture and free lime in concrete creating crystalline particles that seal capillary system and minor cracks caused by shrinkage. These chemicals penetrate to become an integral part of the concrete to waterproof against strong hydrostatic forces. The chemicals remain active for the life of the structure, permanently sealing against water penetration.

AQUAFIN-IC is not a membrane and sometimes takes up to a month to reach its maximum waterproofing capacity. Factors such as ambient temperature, concrete density, present moisture and meteorological conditions can influence the timing of the sealing procedure. During dry conditions the chemicals in AQUAFIN-IC remain inactive but reactivate when exposed to moisture.

After its application and time to cure, AQUAFIN-IC subsequently seals shrinkage cracks up to 1/64” (0.4 mm).

Concrete treated with AQUAFIN-IC is very resistant to the most aggressive substances, constant contact from ph 4 – 11 and periodic contact from ph 2 – 12. In addition, it protects against rafter corrosion, debonding, freeze/thaw cycles. freezing and damage caused by weather conditions.

    Surface Preparation

The surface must be in good condition, clean and with sufficient porosity to ensure adherence to the surface and allow the penetration of AQUAFIN-IC chemicals. Horizontal surfaces must have a wood float or brush finish. Smooth, non-porous surfaces must be roughened to ensure adhesion of AQUAFIN-IC.

    1. Thoroughly clean the surface to remove dirt, cement laitance, oil, curing chemicals, loose particles, paint, and other contaminants. To clean, use sandblasting with water or dry, high pressure washing 4,000 psi (275 bar) adjusted to the strength of the concrete, or other mechanical methods.

    2. Remove rafters or protruding materials by cutting below the concrete surface. Remove all hollow or damaged areas. Construction splices and cracks subject to movement in excess of 0.02” (0.4 mm) should be routed in a “U” shape approximately 3/4” (20 mm) wide and 1” (25 mm) deep. dad. Form tie holes should be roughened.

3.Use AQUAFIN FIX 10-S to stop water dripping. Consult representative if leaks are severe.

    4. Fill repaired areas with AQUAFIN MORTAR-IC.

    5. Thoroughly rinse all surfaces to be waterproofed with clean water. Wet several times so that the concrete or cement blocks are saturated to control surface suction and ensure crystal formation deep in the pore. Apply AQUAFIN-IC to a damp but not wet surface. Removes excess water accumulated on horizontal surfaces.

    How to mix

    The mixing ratio is:

    byvolume:

3 parts powder with 1 part water.

50 lb powder with 1.5-1.9 gallons of water (22.7 kg powder with 6.1 – 7.3 liters of water).

Add the AQUAFIN-IC powder to the water and shake well until the mixture is completely free of dry clumps. You only mix the amount of material you can use in 30 minutes. AQUAFIN-IC must be mixed by drilling or other mechanical method. Use clean water. Mix until a thick paint consistency. Use one container to measure the powder and another for the water. If it seems that the mixture is setting, keep moving it with the mixer until it sets well. Do not add more water.

    App

    • AQUAFIN-IC should not be applied if the temperature is below 40oF (5oC) or to a surface that is frozen.
    • It should not be applied to a dry surface. HORIZONTAL SURFACES AND JOINTS

    HORIZONTAL SURFACES AND CONSTRUCTION JOINTS

    A. Method of applying to dry spray, mechanical flat or wooden flat (wood fleet):
A dry spray test is recommended prior to the actual application.

When the concrete is ready to be troweled, spray the specified amount of dry AQUAFIN-IC. This can be done by hand or with a suitable sprayer and then brushed or floated to space the AQUAFIN-IC even. It continues to pass the flat or floats in its normal way.

    B. Sub Slabs / Tied Slabs / Construction Joints:
Before throwing a new slab against another or by

On top of another slab wet the existing surface and apply AQUAFIN-IC as a grout or dry spray.

    C. Application by brush or spray:
NOTE: The surface of the slab must be

porous with a wooden float or brush finish.

Apply one coat of the specified amount of AQUAFIN-IC in grout consistency.

    VERTICAL SURFACES AND CONSTRUCTION JOINTS

    A. Application by brush:

Apply two coats in the specified amount

of AQUAFIN-IC in grout consistency. Use a typical mason's brush, spreading the material evenly. Apply the second coat before the first coat has dried.

    B. Spray Application:

AQUAFIN-IC can be applied with equipment

compressed air sprayer made to spray mortar. Apply in one or two coats according to specifications using a circular motion. Apply the second coat before the first coat has dried.

    Heal and Protection

Exterior or areas exposed to the elements:

    •  Keep moist for 2 or 3 days. Begin the curing procedure when the AQUAFIN-IC is hard enough to withstand light water spray without damage. In areas where water spraying is not possible, formulated resins can be used to cure concrete.
    •  Protect areas exposed to sun, wind and frost with plastic, tarps or similar materials. The plastic sheets must not be in direct contact with the AQUAFIN-IC because it is necessary to have air circulation between the surface and the plastic.
Surfaces treated with AQUAFIN-IC must be protected against rain for a minimum of 24 hours.
    •  Wait 36 hours after application of AQUAFIN-IC in underground areas before backfilling with soil. It is not necessary to protect the AQUAFIN-IC with boards or plates. The filling must be moist.
    •  Interior area:
    •  AQUAFIN-IC cures only in cool, moist areas.
    •  Keep moist for 2 – 3 days in dry areas.
    •  Provide air circulation when there is no adequate ventilation in areas treated with AQUAFIN-IC and in deep wells.
    •  Tanks and structures to contain water:
    •  These structures can be carefully filled after 3 days. Large tanks: do not discharge water higher than 6.5 ft (2 m) per 24/hr.
    •  Before placing potable water structures in service they should be thoroughly washed with potable water after the AQUAFIN-IC is fully cured.Decoration, Paint, Coating
    •  Surfaces to be painted must be cured for a minimum of 4 weeks. At the end of the curing period, saturate the surface with water and then neutralize with a diluted 1:8 muriatic acid solution. The surface should then be thoroughly rinsed with water.
    •  If surfaces treated with AQUAFIN-IC are going to be coated, it is necessary to apply a coat of cement and sand plaster before applying the final coating. If this is not possible, the hard AQUAFIN-IC should be cleaned and a coating bonding agent applied.

Concrete floors, above or below ground, that will be lined with vinyl tiles or other materials that do not allow water vapor to settle or that do not "breathe" (for example, epoxy, certain carpets, plastic coverings or similar) must be tested to determine the amount of vapor emission. Testing must be done in accordance with ASTM F 1869-98 prior to installation of the types of materials listed here. AQUAFIN-IC is not a barricade against vapor emission.
